A deep dive into the principles that drive my work
Service is a word often spoken but seldom understood in its entirety. For me, "The Act of Service" is more than a principle; it is a way of life. It is a commitment to uplifting others, promoting community growth, and creating opportunities where there once were barriers. My past roles, as a councillor in Thurrock, a school governor, and my ongoing commitment to youth empowerment through TAG Community Radio reflect this ideal and have shaped my understanding of what service truly means in practice.
Key Takeaways from My Journey in Serving the Community
Leadership is a journey, not a destination. Over the past 25 years, I have been privileged to walk this path in various capacities—as a church elder, a councillor, a school governor, and leading a voluntary organisation. Each role has taught me invaluable lessons about service, collaboration, and resilience. Today, I’d like to share some of these lessons with you, in the hope that they might inspire and guide others in their own leadership journeys.
Empowering young people is not just a noble pursuit; it is a necessity. Youth empowerment equips the next generation with the tools, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed in life. Over the years, my work as a community leader has been deeply enriched by witnessing the growth of young broadcasters through TAG Radio. I’ve seen how promoting creativity, leadership, and courage can help young people believe in themselves, pursue education, and focus on their future, steering clear of negative influences.
