Empowering young people is not just a noble pursuit; it is a necessity. Youth empowerment equips the next generation with the tools, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed in life. Over the years, my work as a community leader has been deeply enriched by witnessing the growth of young broadcasters through TAG Radio. I’ve seen how promoting creativity, leadership, and courage can help young people believe in themselves, pursue education, and focus on their future, steering clear of negative influences.

At TAG Radio, we focus on developing practical and life-enhancing skills:

• Public Speaking: Helping young people articulate their thoughts clearly and confidently.
• Technical Skills: Training them in audio editing, sound engineering, and broadcasting tools.
• Teamwork: Encouraging collaboration and problem-solving skills.
• Leadership: Empowering them to take ownership of their shows and inspire their peers.

These skills extend beyond the radio studio. They boost self-esteem, enhance career prospects, and prepare young people for life’s challenges. Every young person who joins TAG Radio brings a unique story, and each success reinforces why this work matters. Seeing a shy teenager transform into a confident, dynamic radio host is one of the most fulfilling aspects of my role. When young people are given a platform to express themselves, they often exceed expectations.

A particularly proud moment came during our 2024 end-of-year party, which was entirely planned by the young people at TAG Radio. Their creativity, organisational skills, and sense of community were on full display. Events like these remind me that empowering youth is not just about teaching them skills, it’s about creating opportunities for them to lead. Through these experiences, they carry forward the values of community, creativity, and resilience.
